The Power of Women’s Circles: Why Gathering Matters More Than Ever

Last month, something quietly powerful unfolded in a little corner of Valencia. At Casa de Patraix, a group of pregnant women, new mothers and babies (and even dogs) gathered together — not for a formal workshop or a rigid seminar, but simply to sit in circle, drink coffee, share stories, and support one another.

It was our Mamas Rising Together meet-up, a free community event created to hold space for mothers in all their tender, tired, beautiful complexity. And as always, it revealed what we so often forget in the whirlwind of motherhood:
we are not meant to do this alone.

What Happens When Women Gather

Women’s circles have existed for as long as communities have. Across cultures and centuries, women gathered to share wisdom, process experiences, heal together, learn together, and pass on knowledge through connection.

But today, in a world that is fast, isolated, digital and often overwhelming, those circles have become rare — and also more needed than ever.

During our November meet-up, you could feel it:
the exhale that happens when a woman enters a room and realises she doesn’t need to pretend.
The relief of being seen, heard, and understood.
The softening that comes from being surrounded by others walking a similar path.

This is the quiet magic of women’s circles:
community becomes medicine.

Sleep Talk, Shared Wisdom & A Whole Lot of Compassion

Our theme this month was “Gentle Sleep Foundations.” I was joined by Camille, a certified baby sleep consultant, to offer practical, nurturing, attachment-based support for families with children aged 5 months to 5 years.

There were no “cry-it-out” methods, no pressure, no judgement — just conversation grounded in Montessori-inspired, responsive parenting. Women shared their experiences, their struggles, their small victories, and the collective wisdom that emerged was richer than anything one teacher alone could offer.

Mothers listened to one another with empathy.
Babies babbled, breastfed, napped, crawled, or snuggled — as they should, in a space created with them in mind.

And in the middle of it all, connection bloomed.

A Space Designed for Real Life

One of the most beautiful things about this event was how real life it felt. There was step-free access, prams everywhere, and a come-when-you-can, leave-when-you-need culture. Some mothers stayed the whole morning; others popped in for ten minutes — because sometimes getting out of the house is the biggest triumph of the day.

But everyone, no matter how long they stayed, left with something:
a tip they could use that night, a moment of calm, a new friend, or simply the feeling of “I’m not the only one.”

Why Women’s Circles Matter

Women’s circles aren’t about perfection.
They’re about presence.

They’re about a shared humanity, a shared journey, and a shared belief that we’re stronger together. Research now supports what our ancestors always knew: connection reduces stress, improves mental health, supports postpartum recovery, and increases resilience.

When women gather:

✨ We connect with our intuition
✨ We develop confidence in our mothering
✨ We create community — the kind that lasts

In our modern world, that’s not just beneficial — it’s essential.

A Growing Community

Mamas Rising Together began as a simple idea:
to give mothers a safe place to land.
To show up exactly as they are — messy bun, spit-up stain, tired eyes, full heart — and be welcomed fully.

Our November circle was just one beautiful example of what happens when women and mothers come together intentionally.
